Add a Desktop shortcut for a folder

 

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

This method also works in other GNOME environments.

In this example a shortcut to the folder Insync is added to the Desktop.
  • Launch the Home folder by either double clicking on the Desktop folder shortcut or clicking on the Files item in the Dock.

  • In the Files window click on the Menu icon (to the left of the minimise icon).

  • Select Preferences.
  • Select the Behaviour tab.

  • Under the heading Link Creation place a tick mark next to "Show action to create symbolic links".
  • In the Home window where the folders are displayed, right click on the folder which you wish to create a Desktop shortcut to, and select Create link.

  • The shortcut will be placed in the current folder. Right click on the newly created shortcut and select Move to...

  • Select Desktop from the list.
  • The shortcut will be placed on the Desktop.
